Given that we only had two pans to play with I thought it might have been a good idea to cook the rice in the electric rice cooker. However given that rice cookers are not exactly standard issue in English kitchens, how on earth do you operate one?!
Being a woman, I was perfectly prepared to call reception and ask them for instructions, but of course Dom thought this was a) ridiculous (in the ‘man asking for directions – no can do’, vein) and b) “how would they possibly know?” – well actually if you hadn’t already noticed they are Chinese and frankly if they don’t know how to work a rice cooker then we are in big, big trouble.
Naturally we opted for the traditional English method: a pan of water.

You guys should have called me on how to use the rice cooker! You can even call our maid, Lis, on 91607901 at any time for advice!
Ok... Rice cooker. Trust me after you master using it, you will never go back to the british way of cooking rice. :)
Step 1:
Fill up the rice cooker with the right amount of rice you need. Say for example to level 1.
Step 2:
Rinse the rice with water a few times making sure u don't loose them in the sink. :)
Step 3:
Fill up the rice cooker with double the amount of water compared with the rice. Say for example, your rice was filled up to level 1, so water up to level 2. I usually use my finger to measure to just make sure that the water level is twice the level of the rice.
Step 4:
Hit the on button and wait..... then once the rice cooker switches off or goes into keep warm mode. Don't serve the rice yet, as it will still stick to the pot. Wait for around 10 - 15 mins to cool slightly. Then the rice will be cooked just right, not too wet or dry or clumped up.
And now you have your perfect rice cooked.
