Reminiscing about Christmas in Olney we decided to have a “bubbly and canapés” Christmas party. Nothing too glam, you know…a few smoked salmon canapés and the occasional glass of fizz. Maybe some freshly squeezed peach juice to make bellinis with the fizz as we all know you don’t get a hangover if there’s fruit juice in your champagne. Ahem!
Anyway, on the day one of our guests rang to enquire about the dress code. Bubbly and canapés sounded a bit posh apparently. So I reassured her that it was actually just a few bits of French stick and pate; that the fizz was sparkling wine, not even champagne and that Dom would probably be wearing his usual ensemble of combat shorts and a t-shirt with holes in it.
Well it turns out I was wrong. Apparently there was a dress code for our party only we didn’t realise it. It seems everyone apart from us came as Santa. And thanks to our generous guests the canapés extended way beyond French stick into a full-on Christmas buffet. Come to think of it this is a pretty good deal. Normally you have to leave mince pies out for Santa but this time round our Santas came bearing cake and we ate it. Bargain!
