According to the folks, their walking tour of Little India was great. The food hygiene standards in their chosen café were another matter though. A solitary waiter with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth shooed away the pigeons and brushed leftover rice onto the floor in an apparent act of cleaning the tables. As he disappeared behind the bar - cigarette still very much on the go - my parents decided it was all a bit too much and headed straight for the Fullerton hotel.
Much as Dad might whinge about the prices (well you’re not in Little India any more!) they do a pretty good English high tea at the Fullerton. Especially if you get your 3-tier cake stand of sandwiches, cakes and desserts re-stocked three times over. Honestly I felt a bit embarrassed by the third round but I think our waitress saw the funny side of things – and if not, well at least it gave her something to do.
