While my parents were arguing the toss with Singapore Airlines, we headed back into town for what can only be described as a huge piss-up with our friends Issy, Monica and Richie, who were in town for a flying visit. Well, at least it started out as a civilised drink at Asylum, but then we made the fatal mistake of walking through the centre of Clarke Quay, where the lure of Clinic bar proved too strong.
I think I mentioned Clinic bar already, but for a brief re-cap, this place is designed on the theme of a hospital. There are operating theatre style lights and most of the seating is provided by gold wheelchairs. Not very PC perhaps, but great fun. Then, of course, there are the drinks. You can get some sort of alcoholic potion delivered in the guise of an IV drip – but Dom and Richie were won over by the girls in skimpy outfits selling ‘blow-job shots’ for $14. Now there’s a surprise…
Suitably fortified with copious quantities of liquor, our guests decided it was time to hit the dance floor. This is always the problem with newly-arrived visitors. On the first night or two they feel like they can party non-stop (unlike us!) But the next day, they’re usually dead - or wishing they were dead, at any rate. Luckily, fate intervened as the men were wearing ‘slippers’ (flip-flop style shoes), which are not acceptable for dancing establishments apparently.
